Recetas Urbanas

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

I found this website on line and I have to say I am soooooooooooo impressed. Recetas Urbanas is a web site where you can see several projects that are being done around cities to make a better use of disused space.

For example I really like this project done in Sevilla. In the middle of the city of the Sevilla there was a building that needed to be demolished due to the fact that it was very old and dangerous for people passing by. The city council demolished it and then they put a wall around the area.

In situations like this plots around cities can be vacated for many years before something is decided on the future of the plot. In this web site they explain how this spaces could be used. People involved in the project demolished the existing wall, emptied the plot and placed temporary urban furniture. All this makes the space functional and usable for everybody!

It is interesting how in this project they used temporary objects such asĀ  beacons filled with cement to secure pieces of galvanized steel used to make games and benches (finished off with train rail rafters cut longitudinally by Uncle Nonio). Together, these items ensure temporary character!
