Conference bag revamp

Saturday, February 23rd, 2013

A couple of months ago I went to the ESOF conference in Dublin. Unlike other times the conference bag was really nice but slightly dull for my taste! The bag itself is really strong so I decided to use it to go shopping but to give it a nice revamp!

I had some left overs from a fabric I bought in IKEA a while back so I used it to revamp the bag. In order to minimise my work I just created a bag the same size as the existing one and then I stitched the top to the existing bag. Like this I did not have to worry too much about seams matching and so on!

Old Cottage gets a Contemporary make over

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

I must say that I really like contemporary design with a hint of the past. This project from Peter Legge Associates is the perfect marriage between contemporary and traditional Irish cottage.

Originally these were two cottages in Donegal that were transformed into one dwelling. The integration of both dwellings was done by a glass area that is where the stair case has been placed. Modern and traditional style are carried on through the interior of the house. Here you have some really nice photographs of the interior.

Here there are some photographs of the ingenious dining area that seems to have been placed right outside the house creating the effect that you are eating in the garden every day!!

Sliding house

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013

Did you ever think that a house could be mobile? dRMM architects not only designed and developed this really unusual concept but they also constructed it in Suffolk, England!

They designed a glass house inside of a structure that slides out giving its owners an unusual extension. The whole project has 3 building forms: A 16m house, 5m garage and a 7m annexe. The garage is pulled off axis to form a courtyard between the three. Each building has different finishes: glass, red and black.

These separated buildings can be transformed by a fourth element in the group, a 20 ton mobile roof and wall that slides along the site. This element allows you to get as much light as possible in the living area or to cover it protecting you from the elements!

Family Recipies

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

Last Christmas I got a lovely present from my brother in law. I got a box that had different dividers to separate the different types of recipes.

I decided to use recipes from all the women in my life and in my husband’s life. The idea is to pass on the box to the future generations!

I scanned the dividers and I used the colour/pattern of each divider for the recipes and on top of the recipe I placed the name and photo of the lady.

All recipes were laminated in order to be able to use them while cooking. I am really excited about this project because I used signature recipes for every body. For example for my granny I used a traditional Catalan dessert that she used to make when I was younger, from my sister in law the recipe she used for making the dessert on her wedding day etc…

Here is the box and an the dividers and one of the recipes!

DIY Plastic Bag Rope

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

I am always trying to use my own bags when I am going shopping, but there is always the odd time that you get plastic bags in places like the butchers or the fish monger. I had been trying to think what to do with all these plastic bags. I found this brilliant tutorial in the blog a Childhood list. It shows how to do a plastic bag rope. I love it I must try it and give it to my niece Emma.
