Cloud and rain

Saturday, September 28th, 2013

My lovely baby will have to get used to the Irish rain. I do not want him to think that rain is a bad thing.

So I made a cloud made of cotton cloud (I basically stuck the cotton to a cereal box that I cut in a shape of a cloud). From the cloud I hanged colour velvet rain drops.

I am planning to place it by the changing table so he can see it while being changed.

Here is how it looks:

Toy Wreath

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

I am giving the final touches to the nursery. I promess I will make photos soon with the whole room finished up!

I really like Wreaths for all occasions so I made one for the nursery room. It is made with some scrap fabric and then with 0.50€ toys from IKEA.

I basically just got some scrap fabric and made a circle that I filled in with stuffing and then I stitched in a bunch of IKEA soft toys and finger puppets.

I love the final product!

I have experienced with my nephew and nieces that one has never enough bibs so I bought a bunch of them in IKEA and I added some colourful fabric to them to make them a bit more cheerful.

Breast feeding pillow

Sunday, September 1st, 2013

I am intending to breast feed so I made a breast feeding pillow. I cannot get over how expensive they are to buy and they are so easy to make!

I made it following the instructions from this really easy web site called make baby stuff.

The tutorial is here

I made two of them. I am planning to keep on in my parents in law house since we go to visit them often.

People always say that babies go through a lot of clothes so I am trying to make as many as possible. I made a couple of shirts from a Martha Stewart pattern. The only thing is that I did not like the kimono feature of it so I changed the pattern slightly and I removed the flap of the front. Here are the shirts I made so far:

Activity blanket

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

I wanted to buy one of those activity blankets for babies to play away on the floor but when I saw how much they are I decided to make one myself!

I used IKEA fabric in one side and red bed sheet on the other side.

The size was exactly the size of a cot duvet this is because I am planning to put the duvet inside the pocket that I made with the two fabrics.

I wanted the blanket to be able to stimulate all the baby senses so at each corner we have different activities.

In one corner I made a fish that if you touch the fins it makes a noises (I filled the fins with plastic sheets that make noise)

In another corner there is sea weed made of felt (to let the baby to feel a different texture)

In another I have a wave made of cotton (soft fabric this time)

In the last corner I have a crab.

All the toys at the corner can be removed (to play somewhere else) and are placed in the blanket with ribbons.

I also made some long rectangles with jingles on them that make a lot of noise when you shake them ( I might regret this one hahahah)

In the middle of the blanket I have a big octopus and lots of different ribbons from different textures.

I hope my baby likes it!

Changing Pad

Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

I went a bit made on the changing Pad business.

I did an initial one that I am going to use every time I am carrying my changing pad bag. Then I decided to do another one for days that I do not want to take with me the whole changing bag. It is a changing pad that has incorporated pockets on it so I can store everything I need. Like the baby powder, some cream or nappies. Again I made two of the pocked baby pads, one for me and another to leave in my parents in law house.

The first changing pad that I made to carry inside of my bag is this:

I made it with matching fabric to the changing bag. The fabric is from IKEA but unfortunately it has been discontinued! I got the link from Meremade blog. If you want to follow her wonderful tutorial click here

The other changing pads that I made that have an incorporated pocket for the changing pad facilities are made by the inspiration from the We all sew website . Although I have to say that I made them slightly wider since I was afraid the baby would not fit. I guess this is the voice of the never had babies mum 😉 I am sure he would have fitted in the other one. I also never bothered on rounding the sides. I am terrible with the scissors! I think that if I would made this again I would actually made it narrower and longer so I would not have to remove each time the items from the pocket every time I would like to change the baby.

Here is how they look:

With the left over fabric and towel (I used for the inside to make the pads softer) I also made some burb clothes here there are:

The other style:

Baby book

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013

When I went to the Crafts show on the RDS last year I found a really nice stand from Village fabrics.

I have to say that most of my money went for them!

They have really nice fabrics and they have really nice sewing kits is well. I bought a particular one to do a child’s book. The kit contained:

Really well explained instructions on how to do the book

Templates that you could cut and use to cut your fabric shapes for the book

Different fabrics to use in the book

I really enjoyed doing this craft was so easy and the best? Well I can do it over and over again because now I have the instructions and the templates! I only need to buy more fabric!

Here is what the finished book looks like:
